ATTITUDE TO INDIA

Pakistan Said To Plan War ATTACK BY PANDIT NEHRU

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 6. Pakistan seemed to be planning* to resort to war over ita differences with Indi*, said the Indian Prime Minister (Pandit Nehru) to-day, according to Reuter's New Delhi correspondent.

Pandit Nehru added: “India will not go to war unless it is attacked.” Pandit Nehru referred to Pakistan's failure to respond to his proposal that India and Pakistan should sign a declaration banning war between them. He said that, regardless of Pakistan’s attitude, India would abide by such a declaration. Claiming that every step taken by him on the Kashmir problem was “dead right,” Pandit Nehru, in a voice shaking with emotion, added: “I stage my reputation on it—all that I have lived for, and all my ideals.” Papdit Nehru described Pakistan’s north-west frontier as “a vast prison,” with the tribal areas in a state of unrest.

He said: “There is far too much propaganda in the foreign press and elsewhere of the most blatant, lying kind, and attempts have been made to bring pressure upen us, more especially regarding Kashmir. It is about time that every single fact about Kashmir was brought out in the blaze of day.”
