Three thousand tons of bombs, covering a square mile, are being blown up by the Royal Australian Air Force at Aitape, New Guinea, according to reports received at R.N.Z.A.F.’ headquarters in Wellington. Six R.A.A.F. demolition experts have been locating the bomb stacks since December, and have been assembling them for blowing up. Many have been hidden under dense tropical growth. The bombs, which are part of one of the largest war-time bomb dumps in the Pacific, include many 10001 b “block-busters."
