BRITISH EXPORTS LAST—YEAR

Total 151 Per Cent. Of 1938 Figure RECORD SET IN LAST QUARTER (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON. February 4. The volume of British exports, which steadily increased throughout 1947 and 1948, reached a record total of 159 per cent, of the 1938 average in the last quarter of 1549. This was announced to-day by the Board of Trade.

For the first quarter of 1949. the export volume was 156 per cent, of the 1938 average. In the second quarter of 3949, exports fell to 146 per cent, of the 1938 average, and in the third quarter the volume again dropped, becoming 142 per cent, of 1938. Total exports for 1949 were 151 per cent, of the 1938 total, or 11 per cent, more than the 1948 figure.
