CHRISTCHURCH SPEEDWAY

NORTH AND SOUTH SECOND DIVISIONS

The North Island second division representatives had a little more luck than other visiting teams this season when they beat the.. South Island team by a maigin of three points at the Aianui speedway on Saturday evening. There was little to choose between tne risers, only one or two of whom showed the iorm of which they are capable. G. Mardon gave several brilliant displays of the form which should have earned him a place in Canterbury’s first division team. He started in tour teams’ races, winning three, and was uaabie to finish in the other because of machine trouble.

At the start of the fifth teams’ race, R. Moore’s front wheel became entangled with the tapes. Moore won the race from K. Bock and R. Wigg (both North Island riders), and then it was announced that he had been disqualified tor breaking. the tapes. This decision caused a demonstration, and it was a long time before the announcer could make nimself heard. When at last his voice became audible, his question: "What would you have said if it had been a North Island rider?” started the crowd off again. Moore’s disqualification put the North Island in the lead for the .first time. Results :
