PATTINSON BEATEN BY WATSON

R. G. Pattinson, the top-ranked Canterbury lawn tennis player, was beaten by S. Watson in the match between United I and Unitdd II at Wilding Park on Saturday. Watson, who is at present seventh on the Canterbury ladder, also beat R. A. H. Howe, then No. 1 on the Canterbury list, last week. By beating Howe and Pattinson, Watson has made a strong claim for a position in the Canterbury shield team to play Wellington this month. On Saturday Watson covered the pourt and retrieved well, winning the third set 6-2 after each had won a set. I The weather was warm and the rain I during the previous day had affected the courts.
