INTERNATIONAL RACE AUCKLAND BOATS WIN 18-FOOTERS’ TROPHY (New Zealand Press Association) • AUCKLAND, February 5. • The International yachting trophy for 18-footers has been won by Auckland J. Logan’s Komutu, in winning the second race of the series this afternoon, is now so far ahead on points that she cannot be beaten. The trophy was won by Australia in Auckland in 1948 and was retained in Sydney last year. To-day’s race was sailed in a moderate westerly wind over a windward and leeward course. Komutu took the lead soon after the start and thereafter was never headed. The Auckland boats, Waimanu, Takiri, and Beverley, finished second, third, and fourth respectively, ahead of Alruth and Shamrock, both of Australia. The points scored by the leading contenders are, with one race still to sail; Komutu (Auckland) 2046, Takiri (Auckland) 638, Waimanu (Auckland) 574, Sea Witch (Australia) 518, and Beverley (Auckland) 455. CHRISTCHURCH CLUB The Christchurch Yacht Club held R, Z and I class races on the Sumner low tide course on Saturday in fresh easterly conditions. Results:— R Class.—Challenge (C. Papps), scr, 4hr 30min Isec, 1; Metelgeux (L. Bamford), 3min, 4hr 46min, 2; Corundum (W. Nicholson), scr, 4hr 57min ssec, 3. Z Class—Scandal (G. Mander), scr, 4hr 27min 30sec, 1. I Class.—Ariel (A. Ebert), scr, 4hr 22 min 20sec, 1; Spray (D. Hoskyn), 2min, 4hr 37min 50sec, 2.

The Canterbury Yacht and Motor-boat Club held two races at Lyttelton on Saturday afternoon in a fresh northeasterly wind. Results:— X Class, tfiird race for Brown Memorial Cup, started 2.16 p.m.—Narada (H. England), 2smin, 4.2.37, 1; Haze (A. Shields), scr, 42.55, 2. Jeanette and Irena retired. Combined I and Z Class race for Evans Bay trophy, started 2.21 p.m.—Falena (S. Tibble), 3min, 3.34.27, 1; Valada (D. Sinclair), 3min, 3.36.43, 2; Myth (P. Mander), scr, 3.37.49, 3. Eighteen started.
