WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES
CRITICISM BY AMERICAN MINISTERS
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 21. The security of New Zealand and Australia ana world peace was threatened by Communist encroachment and the irresponsible nationalism of nations in the far north. This warning was given by two international church leaders when they arrived by air in Auckland to-day. They are the Rev. Carl Mclntire, president of the International Council of Christian Churches, American religious leaaei and author, and Dr. T. T. Shields, of Toronto, vice-president of the council. They are travelling to warn churches of “the strong tincture of Communism” existing in the World Council of Churches and the affiliation of 48 Christian denominations.
When this report was referred last evening to the Rev. A. A. Brash, secretary of the National Council of Churches in New Zealand, he said he had no comment to make. _
