HUTT VALLEY BEATS WAIKATO
(New Zealand Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 28. Hutt Valley retained the Hawke Cup by beating Waikato by 166 runs on the first innings. With the issue beyond doubt, there was some very free batting to-day, a feature being a century in 55 minutes by N. McMahon (Waikato), who hit eight sixes and 12 fours in his 111. Scores: Hutt Valley, 366 and 229 for one declared (A. Nightingale 105, not out, J. R. Capstick 101 not out). Waikato, 201 and 161 for one (McMahon 111, Petrie 37 not out).
