HOME FOR PRIME MINISTER
MR FRASER’S VIEWS
NORTHLAND HOUSE SAID TO BE SUITABLE
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 28.
“I have always considered the house to be ideally situated, its position being thoroughly in line with my acceptance of what constitutes a good, indeed a fine site, in Wellington.” The former Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) made this comment to-day on 'the suitability of the Northland residence, formerly occupied by him as the Prime Minister’s residence.
“I am of the opinion that the house could be greatly improved when the housing situation will permit this to be done,” said Mr Fraser. He added that he had no intention of entering into any discussion about the provision of housing accommodation for members of the new Ministry. That, he said, was a matter for the judgment, taste, preferences and desires of those concerned. The Northland house was not inaccessible; it was only seven minutes by car at a fairly easy pace to Parliament Buildings, Mr Fraser added.
