CHRISTMAS TOURNEY AT SHIRLEY D. L. WOON BEATS R. T. LAMBIE D. L. Woon beat R. T. Lambia 3 and 1 in a close match yesterday to win the L. Brinkman Challenge Cup in the final of the Christchurch amateur championship, when the Christchurch Golf Club • Christmas tournament concluded at the Shirley links. The match was exciting over the last three holes. It could have been anyone’s game, but Woon s experience told and probably made all the difference at the finish. w...Woon went round in 75, and Lambie ■ score was 79. Par for the course is 73. Lambie played good golf in the Canterbury championships at Easter, when he reduced bis handicap from 4 to 3. Lambie won the first hole with a 5 to a 6. and the second and third were halved with bogey figures. At the fourth, Lambie had about an 18 inch putt to win the hole. Woon stymied him and Lambie went for the hole and putted woon a ball into the hole. This squared the m«tch and Woon won the fifth and sixth m bogey figures, but lost the seventh to a bogey 4 alter socketing his second. The eighth was halved ’n birdie 4 s, and Woon won the ninth with a birdie 2 to be 2 up at the tenth. The tenth and eleventh were halved in bogey figures. A birdie 3 at the twelfth put Woon 3 up. The thirteenth was halved in 4. and Lambie got an eagle 3 at the fourteenth to win, and won with a bogey 3 at the fifteenth, leaving Woon 1 up. Woon won he sixteenth and seventeenth with bogey figures to win the match 3 and 1. Lambie failed fairly badly at the sixteenth. The Christmas plate was fought out between two Christchurch Club members, H. J. Gosset beating E. J. Pumphrey, S U *The prizes were presented by Mrs RW. Morgan, the wife of the club president.

INVERCARGILL COURSE RECORD BROKEN (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL. December 26. H W. Rogers, the Southland golf champion, broke the course record at Queen s Park. Invercargill, on Saturday with > round of 65. three strokes better than the course record. In his last four rounds at Queen’s Park Rogers has aggregated 12 strokes under bogey.
