ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
PLANS FOR CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS At the invitation of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, the Most Rev. P. F. Lyons, priests from the metropolitan and country parishes of the diocese assembled at the Bishop’s house for the inaugural meeting to draw up plans for the Roman Catholic centenary celebrations next year. Under the chairmanship of the Bishop, a general priests’ committee was set up and the Rev. E. M. Joyce, parish priest of Sockburn, was appointed organiser of the celebrations. The celebrations, which will begin on Sunday, November 12. 1950, and end on November 19, will be specially honoured by the presence in Christchurch during that week of His Eminence, Cardinal Gilroy, Archbishop of Sydney. A further meeting of the committee has been arranged for early in the New Year.
