The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a deep depression south of New Zealand and the Tasman is moving slowly away. Forecast to 5 p.m.: moderate variable winds. Weather: mainly fair, but some isolated heavy showers likely. Temperatures: moderate to mild. WEST COAST The following is the forecast for the West Coast of the South Island:— Moderate to fresh west to southwest winds. Weather changeable, with occasional showers but fair periods increasing. Temperatures, moderate. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The 'weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine and warm, though overcast at times^There was a fresh north-east wind. At midnight the sky was almost clear and there was a light southerly wind. The temperature was 50.8 degrees. The barometer at 29.501 inches (999.0 millibars) was rising.
