PERFORMANCE OF MISS J. SHACKLETON .
From Our Own Reporter TIMARU, Dec. 26. Canterbury’s foremost woman athlete, Miss Janet Shackleton, of Waimate, who A’lll represent the province at the New Zealand athletic championships at Napier this week, has by her recent performances carried the right to be considered n world class over the 80 metres hurdles. Her time of ll.Gsec in an official club trial at Waimate on Friday was only 2-5 sec outside the world's record set by the Dutch woman champion, Mrs Fanny Blankers-Koen, at the last Olympic Games at London. Miss Shackleton’s performance bettered the times recorded in several heats of this event at the Olympic Games, and is l-10sec under the best time recorded in New Zealand. On her present form she is considered a strong contender for a title at the Empire Games. During this season she has also recorded 11 2-ssec for the 100 yards and 26sec for the 220 yards. Miss Shackleton, who is aged 21, is a daughter of Dr. and Mrs R. G. Shackleton, of Waimate.
