JAPANESE WAR PRISONERS

DEMONSTRATION IN TOKYO

DELEGATION TO SOVIET EMBASSY

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) TOKYO, December 22. A demonstration by a crowd of angry Japanese returned soldiers and wives and mothers of missing war prisoners outside the Russian Embassy to-night achieved some success when the Russians promised to attempt to get information about the prisoners of war still in their hands. A delegation of three members of the Upper House and five representatives of families whose menfolk are missing in Russian-controlled territory, were admitted to the embassy after the demonstration looked like developing into an ugly scene. Two junior Russian officials promised to request Moscow for an answer to the delegation’s demands.

The delegation asked how many Japanese deaths there had been in Siberia and Manchuria and how many were still alive. It also requested two-way postal communication, and the repatriation of the remaining prisoners during the winter months instead of ceasing repatriation in November.
