WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

Burwood.—To wind up the activities of the institute for thr ear, an enjoyable Christmas party was held by members of the Burwood Women’s Institute in the Rowe Memorial Hall, Shirley. Mrs Leverett, who presided, welcomed the guests and the many children who were present at the gathering. During the evening all took part in competitions, sketches, and glee singing. Songs were sung by Miss Marjorie Nelson. A feature of the entertainment was the arrival of Father Christmas, who distributed gifts from a Christmas tree. Later all joined in the singing of Christmas carols. To honour Mrs Hunter, a committee member who is leaving the district a farewell party was held at the home of the president (Mrs Leverett) in Bowhill road. The presentation of a crystal dish was made to Mrs Hunter, and in appreciation of her work for the institute, a small Christmas gift was given by Mrs Leverett.
