TRACK WORK AT TRENTHAM
RACING . .
GAY STROLLER IN GOOD FORM “The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, Dec. 22. An excellent gallop over a mile by the Manawatu Cup candidate. Gay Stroller, was the feature of the trials at Trentham this morning. Gay Stroller, who won the Manawatu Cup two years ago,- returned to his best form to win the St. Andrews Handicap in track record time on the second day of the Feilding meeting last month, but he failed in two attempts at Riccarton. He has freshened up since and he would need only to reproduce his track efforts to cause an upset on Saturday. Most galloping took place bn the plough, which had been watered and was. heavy. Galloping freely throughout, Gay Stroller (Spratt) finished a length and a halt in front of Deep Sea (McDonald) at the end of a mile in Imin 43sec. Gay Stroller came home from the half-mile in 52sec and from the three furlongs in 39 3-ssec. The stablemates, Prefect (Ford) and Responsive (Anderson),, were together at the end- of a mile in Imin 45 4-ssec, the final three furlongs in 39sec. Prefect was doing the better/ at the end of the trial. Veine d’Or (Spratt) and Wild Note (McDonald), were together at the end of a mile in Imin 44 3-ssec. They galloped freely over the final half, returning 51 3-ssec, which was time in the going. Both should race prominently during the holidays. Autocrat (Biggs) appeared to be doing better than Dexter (Bryce) at the end of half -a mile in 51 l-ssec. They ran the final three furlongs in '37sec. Dexr .ter. has been off the scene for almost 12 months. -
Sea Shanty (Sandford) was not required ’to do her best to finish on terms with Alymus (Biggs) at the end of a mile in Imin 48sec, the final four in 54 l-ssec Master . Fox (Biggs) and Solimbine (Sandford) were together throughout three furlongs in 37 l-ssec. Master Fox finished on well for sixth in the Stewards’ Handicap dt Levin last week, and he may be capaole of a surprise during the holidays. Rising Tide (Walker) and Pierre (Bryce) worked easily from the seven furlongs to the half-mile, and speeded up to come home in 52 lessee. Rising Tide is very fit have prospects in the Tararua Hack Handicap at.Maqawatu. Survivor ( Walker) had a lot ini reserve when he finished a length in front of Super Duke (Bryce) at the end of six furlongs. He ran the last four in 53 4-ssec and the final three in 38 4-ssec.
