DEFENCE TALKS TO BE HELD

MEETINGS IN LONDON AND PARIS WESTERN AND ATLANTIC UNIONS LONDON, November 22. Strategic and armament problems of both Western Europe and the North Atlantic area will be examined at a scrips of Ministerial and staff meetings to be held during the next 10 days, beginning with a meeting of the Defence Ministers of the Brussels Treaty countries in London to-morrow. Next Tuesday the Chiefs of Staffs of the 12 North Atlantic Pact nations will meet in Paris to prepare for a meeting of the North Atlantic Defence Committee, which comprises the Defence Ministers of the countries associated in alliance. The Ministers themselves will meet two days later in Paris. They will be mainly concerned with the organisation of the North Atlantic area. The strength of the force which is to guard the defensive line from the Alps to the Baltic will probably be one of the questions considered.

The mission of 12 United States experts w’ho recently arrived in London to reassess the needs of the Western European countries under the American military aid programme has now split into groups, and members''are engaged in bilateral talks with representatives of the five Brussels Treaty countries.
