In his two races since joining W. R. Butts team. Prince Hall showed encouraging form to finish fifth in the Hornby Handicap, and second to British Machine m the Durham Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Jubilee Cup meeting. A solid type of six-year-oid getting by Dillon Hall from Chatelaine, Prince Hall may soon win a race for Mr F. Ruck.
A Well-bred Youngster Haughty, the winner ol the 1542 and the 1943 New Zealand Trotting Cups, has foaled a colt to Josedale Grattan, which won the Cup in 1941. Last season. Haughty foaled a colt to Gold Bar, the winner of the premier event in 1945. Both youngsters are attractive types. Their careers will be followed with interest. Returning to Form R. H. Butterick’s Good Review showed that he is returning to his best form by finishing third in the Hornby Handicap, and fourth in the G. W. C. Smithson Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Jubilee Cup meeting. Consistent
Perpetua brought her record to a win, three seconds, and a fourth in her five starts for the season when she finished half a head behind Victorv Dale in the Shirley Handicap at Addington on Saturday. One of H. J. Smith’s team at Halswell, Perpetua, which is a four-year-old daughter of Springfield Globe and Wrack’s Advice, should take a tight mark before the season closes. She may add the Metropolitan Four-year-old Stakes to her record at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday.
Colt by Gay Caballero Mavis Grattan, which won races for Mr B. T. Roper, has foaled a colt to Gay Caballero, which is by Quite Sure from Rita Axworthy.
Freefield, which is also owned by Mr Roper, has a colt by Gotten Shadow. Broke Up
Mr C. Pateman’s Gotten Amazon, which is now trained at Murchison by F. Wilson, lost his chance when he broke at the start of the Gloucester Handicap at Addington on Saturday. A place-getter in two races last season. Gotten Amazon has the ability to win if he would settle down to race solidly. An aged Quite Sure gelding, Golden Amazon is out of Great Amazon.
