OVERSEAS WOOL MARKETS
BUOYANT CONDITIONS (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, Nov. 14. Market conditions remain extremely firm in merinos, while crossbreds have hardened in sympathy with a similar movement in Australian crossbreds, says the International Wool Secretariat special news service. Under the influence of strong Russian bidding, some Melbourne crossbreds advanced sharply this week and medium crossbred tops quotations in Bradford have advanced 2d and 3d per lb. but still lag behind wool costs. Some of the largest crossbred topmakers have withdrawn from the Bradford market, having failed to buy wool in the Dominions this week, and being unwilling to offer tops for sale until they have bought wool from which to make them. These firms are unwilling to sell uncovered, as this would involve anticipating the price level on which the New Zealand marketing season will open later this month.
Approximate tops quotations are:—7o's, “A” 128 d per lb and “B” 123 d; 64’s. “A” 119 d to 120 d and “B” 117 d; 60’s, super 106 d and average 103 d; 58's, super Did and average 89d: 56’s, super 78d and average 73d; 50’s, 54d; 48’s, 53d; 46’s, 51d.
