COMPETITION FOR LABOUR BRITAIN AND EIRE
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, November 14. The Dublin correspondent, of the “Daily Telegraph” s«ys that Eire and Britain will this week start a poster war competing for the labour of Irish workers. By displaying thousands of posters in Britain, the Eire Government hopes to attract back to Eire at least 10,000 workers.
Eire offers work for the next 10 years, involving the expenditure of almost £ 100.000,000 on electricity undertakings. hospitals, and housing. At the hydro-electric works at Ballyshannon, in County Donegal, work is 12 months behind schedule, mainly because of a scarcity of carpenters. . At the same time, a British advertising firm is sending thousands of posters to Eire, inviting Irishmen to go to well-paid jobs in Britain. The posters offer good conditions and excellent holidays, with fares paid from Ireland.
