CRITICISM OF DR. GARBETT

ACCUSED OF BIAS BY MR SHINWELL

(Rec. 8 p.m.) LQNPON, November 14a The British Secretary of State for War (Mr E. Shinwell) has accused the Archbishop of York (Dr. C. F. Garbett) of showing bias against the Government in his speech last week, when Dr. Garbett called for the nation to be told the “plain facts of the economic crisis." Mr Shinwell said Dr. Garbett’s speech was “a most deplorable example.” He suggested that, in future, Dr. Garbett should first ascertain the facts and try to understand the economic situation before he embarked on criticisms and indulged in prophecies.
