BOROUQH COUNCIL MEETING
The Lyttelton Borough Council last evening received a letter from the Lyttelton Marine Band informing the council that it was proposed to alter the status of the band to that of a municipal band, and asking "that the council should give consideration to the proposal which would be dealt with at the annual meeting of the band. In moving that as many councillors as possible attend the meeting of the band. Cr. F. H. Heal said the band was of great benefit to the town. There was nothing to be afraid of in the proposal, said the Mayor, who added that he was president of the band. Members of the band were enthusiastic enough to help themselves, but should be under the control of the council. The Uoper Hutt Borough Council wrote asking support for a proposal that hospital rating should be on a population basis instead of as at present, on capita) value. The council decided to reply declining to support the proposal. The council appointed a sub-committee to investigate and report on parking areas in the borough.
Rose Show Mrs J. S. Stanley was the winner of the 12 roses, championship class, at the Presbyterian rose show held last week. Mrs T. C. Voyce had the most outstanding exhibit in *the decorative section.
Magistrate’s Court James Leo Machin, a ship’s fireman, aged 23, was charged in the Magistrate s Court at Lyttelton yesterday, before Messrs W. T. Lester and F. E. Sutton. Justices of the Peace, with using obscene language in Norwich quay. He pleaded guilty *and was ccnvicted and fined £3. On a charge of drunkenness he was convicted and discharged.
