CHINESE EMBASSY STAFF IN PARIS
FIGHT BETWEEN PARTY SUPPORTERS (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, November 5. “A new Chinese war has broken out here, with casualties so far comprising black eyes and bruises, among nine Communist members of the Chinese Embassy staff.” says the Paris correspondent of the British United Press. “The trouble began at a bar at the Embassy last night when there was a scuffle between Chinese Nationalist sympathisers and pro-Communists. The Communists were thrown out. The Chinese Charge d’Affaires appealed for French intervention and a dozen hefty French policemen arrived at the Embassy to-day. When the black-eyed Communists arrived this morning they were not allowed into the Embassy, and turned down an offer to send two representatives inside to a peace conference.’’
Civil Servants Refused Wage Increase.—Because of “the present economic situation of the nation,” the Civil Service Arbitration Tribunal has rejected a claim for a 15 per cent, increase in the pay of 6000 clerks in Britain.—London, November 6.
