GUIDED MISSILE TESTS
PROVING GROUND IN
AUSTRALIA SOME ROCKETS ALREADY FIRED (N.Z.P.A. —Reuter —Copyright) ADELAIDE, Nov. 4. Some test rockets have already been fired on the range at Woomera, where the British Commonwealth proving ground for guided missiles has been established. The Minister of the Army (Mr C. Chambers) will be present when more are fired to-day on the interim range. These will include small war-time weapons employed as test instruments used in tracking the larger missiles. The range is situated 250 miles north-west of Adelaide. Already nearly 3000 people are living in the area. Work is proceeding on the main range, which will give a 1200-mile corridor running north-west to the Australian coast between Broome and Port Hedland and extending 1500 miles further to Christmas Island. Three other i\anges are being prepared.
