The High Commissioner for the United Kingdom (Mr C. R. Price) will leave Wellington for Christchurch today to attend the unveiling of the memorial to the fallen of the British Empire in the Christchurch Cathedral on Sunday. He will return to Wellington on Monday.—(P.A.) The Senior Naval Liaison-officer ot the United Kingdom Service Liaison Staff (Captain M. W. Richmond. D. 5.0., 0.8. E., R.N.), will lay a wreath bearing the inscription, “In remembrance from the Government and people of the United Kingdom,” at the 11 o’clock service at the Cenotaph in Wellington to-morrow morning, on behalf of the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom. Mr J. A. MacConochie arrived in Auckland yesterday to take over the position of assistant manager of the Shaw. Savill and Albion Company in New Zealand. He formerly held a similar post in London. Mr MacConochie was the representative at Naples of the Ministry of War Transport before accepting his London position in June, 1946. He will relieve Mr F. D. Harris, who will leave soon for Australia. —(P.A.)
Mr H. O. Harries, joint London manager of Sargood, Son. and Ewen, Ltd., who is visiting New Zealand, lett Christchurch lor the south yesterday. Mr Harries is a member of the council of the London Chamber of Commerce, chairman of its Australian and New Zealand section, and a member of the general purposes committee. He also holds a position on the executive committee of the Australian and New Zealand Merchants’ and Shippers’ Association in London.
