TRAM HOLD-UPS AT AUCKLAND
SERIOUS DELAYS ON SERVICES
QUEEN STREET PACKED WITH TRAMS
(New Zealand Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 27. For the second time in a week thousands of Auckland people were delayed on their way home at the end of the day this afternoon by two serious interruptions in suburban tramway services. The first ahd more serious occurred in Wellesley street east, right in the city, soon after 5 o’clock, at the peak of the rush hour, when the motor of an outward .bound tram-car failed as it was climbing a steep hill. Other outward bound trams soon backed ,up behind the crippled car, until the long line extended down Wellesley street and Queen street to Customs street. The fault was rectified in about half an hour, but many people were delayed up to an hour. The second hold-up occurred in Kingsland about 5.10 p.m., when a tram-car bound for Avondale jumped the points at a corner and was derailed. The delay lasted until about 6.30. By that time about 50 trams bound for Mount Albert, Avondale, Sandringham, and Owairaka had banked up.
