WORLD DAY FOR ANIMALS

Sir, —Having read Mr Hervey’s letter on the cruelty of poultry farming on the “battery” system, I should like to add my protest against that dioboli--cal method of producing eggs. I have seen photographs of it in an English paper, and was exceedingly shocked. It almost made me lose faith in mankind to think they could devise such a scheme, and not only devise it, but be allowed to put it into practice in a civilised and Christian country. I am glad to hear that it has become illegal and I sincerely hope it will never be tolerated here.—Yours, etc., E.D. October 11, 1949.
