NEW CANDIDATE FOR WESTERN MAORI
SELECTION HELD OVER IN MEANTIME (New Zealand Press Association.) WANGANUI. October 14. After the funeral of the late member for Western Maori (Mr M. Ratana) yesterday at Ratana Pa. representatives of the Matamata and Waikato Maoris decided to leave the selection of a Western Maori candidate for the General Election in abeyance in the meantime. Among the names mentioned was that of Mrs Iriaka Ratana, widow of the late member. Other possible women candidates were also mentioned. Another view was that it would be best to refer the matter to members of the Ratana family, as all major decisions in lhe Ratana movement were made by the late Mr T. W. Ratana. the founder of the movement, and later by his sons. All the sons of the founder are now dead.
