TRAVEL CLUB

ADDRESS BY MISS EVIE HAYES

Miss Evie Hayes, who plays the leading role in the musical comedy. “Annie Get Your Gun,” was the guest speaker at a meeting of the Travel Club, held at the D.I.C. yesterday. She gave an entertaining description of theatrical life and of her good fortune in being chosen by Mr Frank Tait to play the part of “Annie,” which she said was the most exacting part for a woman in musical comedy. The story of the play, she explained, followed closely the life history of the real Annie Oakley, who became world famous, and who retained her skill in rifle shooting until her death in 1929.

Mrs John Farrell, who was accompanied by Mrs J. C. Cullman, received an ovation for her singing of three songs. Members and executives of the musical comedy company who accomnanied Miss Hayes, were Mrs Earl Covert. Mrs Claude Fleming, Mr Carl Randall. Mr John Farrell, and Mr and Mrs A. J. Elliott. Other overseas visitors included Dr. and Mrs Worseldine. who lived for many years in India, Mr George Gillow (formerly of Westport, now of Melbourne’), who is visiting his sister, Mrs H. A. Young, and Mrs Gray, junior, who accompanied Mr-s Alex. Young.

Sir Josenh Ward (president) presided at the meeting, and Mesdames M. McNab and Cecil Wood were hostesses.
