TOWARDS A MODERN RELIGION
Sir, —For “Old, Old Story,” love of man, or more modernly, love of all living creatures from the least evolved virus to the most developed superman (men I ke Laotse, Buddha. Jesus, Spinoza, Gandhi, Schweitzer) is iove of God: for all living beings are just different expressions (“persons” or aspects) of the same One Life, i.e., God. Listen further to 1 John, iv, 7-8: “Love (i.e., unselfish devotion to the good of another) has its origin in God, and every one who loves has been begotten of God and is beginning to know God
. . . because God is Love.” For E. B. Miles, would not Abou to-day be a lover not merely of his fellow-men but also of his fellow-animals and fel low-plants'.’ For “The Voice of One Crying in the Wilderness,” if I removed mountains into the sea, would I not be drowning the innocent “conies” and thus break the Golden Rule? For N. Beck, so Luke (vi, 22-26) teaches. — Yours, etc., N. M. BELL. October 10. 1949. [This correspondence is now closed.— Ed., “The Press.]
