STOCK SALES ABERDEEN ANGUS SALE (New Zealand Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, October 11. Big prices were paid for Aberdeen Angus hulls of outstanding breeding, offered to-day at the annual sale of the New Zealand Aberdeen Angus Cattie Breeders' Association. The champion bull. Donald Grant's Emperor 22nd of Mangatoro, was bought by John Mhcfarlane (Waitaranui Stud. Hastings), for HOOgns, which was the top price. The champion bull last year made 1250 gns, and the second prize bull, offered by Humphrey Bayley. Wairoa. was bought by J. Richardson (Tuakau) for 500gns. The third prize bull, sold on account of Messrs Roberts and Co. (Middlemarch), was bought by D. G. Furlong (Bunnytliorpe), for 500gns. and the fourth prize bull, offered on account of the Tautane Slud, was bought by D. E. Rout. (Greytown), for 410gns. For yearling bulls, Donald Grant (Mangatoro) received 455gns, 450gns, and 365gns, and A. McGaffin (Elsthorpe), 325 gns and 280gns. Prices ranged down to 55gns. Yearlings ranged from 455gns to 65gns. An eight-year-old hull out of Peony of Gwavas, sired by Mulben Embassy. brought Gsogns. J. Macfarlane sold 23 two-year-olds for 5970gns, an average of 259.6gn5. Eleven yearlings realised 2795gn5, an average of 254gns. The total realisations to-day were 8765gns. ASHBURTON There was an average yarding with restricted buying at the fortnightly stock sale, held in the Ashburton saleyards yes- , terday. Prices were firm at late rates with the exception of the later part ol the sale, when passings were frequent. Prices were:— Wctlvers.—Light and unfinished, up to 365; medium, 37s Io 41s; prime. 42s to 48s Id. Hoggets.—Medium, to 40s; prime, 41s to Ifis; extra prime, 47s to 51s. Ewes.—Light, to 20s; medium. 21s to 23s fid; prime, 24s to 29s Id. Maiden ewes made from 30s to 34s Id. KAIKOURA At. the Kaikoura monthly stock sale the range of prices was:— Sheep.—Aged ewes with Romney lambs at foot, 20s (all counted); four and sixtooth store wethers, 34s fid to 38s fid; shorn f.m. ewes, 17s fid to 235. Dairy Cows. -Jersey third calvers, £l5 and £l5 10s; Shorthorn third calvers, £l2; fat Jersey cows, £5 to £8 l()s. Pigs.—Wenners, 455; slips, 60s to 82s. RANGIORA There was a good yarding of cattle and pigs at the weekly stock market held at Rangiora yesterday. No sheep were brought forward. Cattle.—Second calvers, £l2. Store heifers, £8 10s; store yearling heifers, £5 10s. Bulls. £lO l()s to £l2. Pigs.—Store weaners, 48s to 635. MINING Austral-New Zealand Mining.—For the 14 days ended October 8, the dredge operated 246 hours, producing 239 ounces bullion. —(P.A.)
