Stokes) at the finish after running the four furlongs in 48 2-5 sec. Trinidad will be ridden in the Wellington Guineas by A. J. Stokes, who will be on Swayup in the Shorts Handicap next Saturday. / Though hard held throughout, Pastel (R. W. Shaw) could not be held back to Lady Jane (A. Vitamin finished ahead of Valid (F. H. Skelton) after running the last live furlongs of their work in Imin 2sec, and the last three in 36 Magical (M. H. Hillis) showed to advantage over the final stages of a gallop with Johnny Peep (C. F. King) over six furlongs in Imin 16 4-ssec. TRACK WORK AT TRENTHAM BONNIE KING DOES BEST HALF-MILE "The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. October 11. The Takanini horses. Gold Script, Gollen, and Zenith, arrived at Trentham on Monday and they were given pace work this morning. Gold Script and Zenith impressed by their appearance. In her only start Zenith outclassed the opposition in the second division of the Nursery Handicap at Te Aroha, and should have prospects in the Wellesley Stakes. Indian Song was the only other visiting horse at the track this morning. She, too, was restricted to pace work. The trial and two-year-old tracks were available for galloping, and the going was dead. The times were not outstanding. The best half mile was done by Bonnie King. Vitesse showed speed over five furlongs, and Distinction and Pilfer pleased over seven furlongs. On the trial grass Fortune, Gay Girl, and Belle Reine were together at tne end of six furlongs, the last four in 53 3Reveller was travelling easily half a length in front of Fairhome at the end of a mile, the last seven furlongs taking Imin 34 3-ssec. The stablemates, Oban and Pervin, did not have to do their best to run half a mile in 53 l-ssec, the last three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. They finished together. In hife first gallop since he ricked a muscle at Hastings, The Rip ran an easy six furlongs in Imin 24 4-ssec, the last half mile in 56 3-ssec. He was slightly sore when he pulled up, but he was all right later. Pilfer Improving Pilfer showed a further improvement when she beat Foxmorn by half a length at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 32 3-ssec, the last four in 53 2-ssec. Abbotsford pleased by the way in which he ran six furlongs in Irnin 20 l-ssec, the last four in 52 l-ssec. He ran an improved race in the Hawke’s Bav Guineas and he may not be far from his best. Distinction was going very easily beside Double Bid throughout seven furlongs m Imin 32 3-ssec, the last half mile in 53sec. Distinction has done well since he raced at Hastings, and may have prospects in the Wellington Handicap. On the two-year-old track Dark Courage was going much better than Boleigh at the end of three furlongs in 37 4-ssec.
