BUTTER RATION INCREASED
Another Two Ounces A Week ANNOUNCEMENT BY MINISTER (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) . WELLINGTON. October 11. An increase in the butter ration from six to eight ounces from October 24 was announced in the House of Representatives at midnight by the Minister of industries and Commerce (Mr A. 15. Nordmeyer). He said the abolition of butter and cream rationing had been given considerable consideration by the Government, but it had been decided that it must be continued for a further period, perhaps 12 months. Mr Ncrdmeyer said the Government had been anxious for some time to in - crease the butter ration, because it was recognised that for some families, where lunches had to be cut. the ration of six ounces was inadequate. The British rationing position had improved slightly, but there was still a very serious deficiency in fats. Opposition voices: Good old election year. Mr Nordmeyer said the election had nothing to do with the Government’s decision. Opposition voices: Oh. yes?
