MR L. E. ROWLEY AND MR J. BOWDEN
PRESENTATIONS MADE BY TEACHERS Teachers from many parts of Canterbury and representatives from the Education Department, Canterbury University College Council. Canterbury Education Board, and post-pri-mary schools boards of managers met last "evening to honour Mr L. E. Rowley. who has been secretary of the Canterbury Educatio i Board for the last 14 years, and has now retired, and Mr J. Bowden, who recently retired from his position as secretary of the North Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute. which he held for 26 years. The function, which was held in the Winter Garden, was organised by the North Canterbury branch of the institute in association with the MidCanterbury. South Canterbury, Ashley and Westland branches. Speakers paid tribute to the work of both the guests of honour in the creating of a sense of co-operation between the administrative and professional sides of the educational service. Mr Bowden, replying, said that a strong institute and a sympathetic Government had brought about many reforms in education. Good wishes were expressed to Mr and Mrs Rowley and Mr and Mrs Bowden by Mr B. C. Penney, president of the North Canterbury branch of the institute. Mr D. Jillett. Dominion president, and Mr J. Fraser, who represented branches other than North Canterbury. Both Mr Rowley and Mr Bowden were presented with a radio set. *
