EFFECT OF NEW RATE OF EXCHANGE I (New Zealand Press Association.) WELLINGTON. September 19. A special inquiry was being made to ascertain to what extent petrol and lubricating oil in New Zealand would be affected by the devaluation of sterling and New Zealand currency, said the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) this afternoon. The inquiry would take some time. Mr Nash said the Price Tribunal would keen check to ensure that holders of goods from dollar areas already in New Zealand did not profiteer. Prices depended rot noon the date of importation, but nnon the date of payment for goods. There migh f be goods already in New Zealand for which oayment had not already been made.
