SCREENING OF GODWITS

Sir,—l observe that a flock of about 300 godwits has discovered chinks in the “Iron Curtain” and has invaded the mangroves and mud flats of Parengarenga. In view of the danger of the spread of the virus of Communism among the bird population of New Zealand, I would be glad to learn if the Prime Minister will take immedil ate action to ensure their return to the Union of Soviet Socialistic Republics, or failing this, that each godwit I be required to sign a declaration undertaking to refrain from spreading Marxian notions while enjoying New Zealand’s hospitality—Yours, etc., R. S. WHEELER. Timaru, September 17, 1949.
