CEYLON TEAM
INSUFFICIENT FUNDS AVAILABLE Ceylon may not be able to send a team to the British Empire Sam -s to be held at Auckland in February unless the funds needed can be obtained, according to the "Ceylon Observer ” The Ceylon Olympic and Empire Games Association accepted an invitation to participate in the games last year, but the financial position of the association at present does not permit oi a team being sent. The expenses of a Ceylon team of 22 competitors, comprising boxers, swimmers, vrestlers. and athletes and two women competitors will amount to about 52.000 rupees ’about £4000). '"he association has only about 7000 rupees to its credit. Early appeals to the Government and two laige clubs in Colombo have not met with success, and the association has now decided to appeal to the public for funds. The team is due to leave Colombo at the end of December, and if the full amount required has not teen raised by then, the team’s strength will have to )e reduced. Women will be the first to be dropped from the team because with them a chaperon is also needed.
