LONG SERVICE LEAVE
AUSTRALIAN MINERS’ AWARD (Rec. 9 p.m.) SYDNEY. Sept. 7. The Coal Industry Tribunal (Mr F. Gallagher) to-day awarded long service leave to miners, penalised them for the recent general coal strike, and provided penalties for future stoppages. The which provides for consecutive working shifts, is equivalent, to three months’ leave for miners, on full pay, after a minimum of 10 years' service.
Miners who did not heed the tribunal’s warning on July 15 to return to work promptly will lose one day’s leave for each of the seven weeks they were on strike. The tribunal announced that the award would be suspended in any district where collieries were idle because of a strike.
