VESSELS USING LYTTELTON

AUGUST FIGURES

A total of 75 trading vessels representing a net register tonnage of 155.986 entered the Port of Lyttelton during August, said the Harbourmaster (Captain A. E. Chrisp) at the monthly meeting of the Lytteltpn Harbour Board yesterday. This compared with 76 vessels, totalling 153,850 tons, in August. 1948. The figures were as follows:—last month: coastal vessels, 58 (87.290 tons); I inter-colonial, 3 (2791): overseas, 14 j (65.905). August. 1948: Coastal vessels. ! 60 (83.704 tons); inter-colonial, 1 i (1100): overseas, 15 (69.046). Three vessels, the Olivebank, from Makatea. the Cistula. from Singapore, i and the Kaiapoi. from the United I Kingdom, arrived direct from overseas, and six left direct for overseas.
