GONZALES BEATS SCHROEDER
U.S. LAWN TENNIS TOURNAMENT NEW YORK. September 5. Richard (Pancho) Gonzales and Mrs Margaret Dupont retained their national singles titles at the United States tennis championships at Forest Hills to-day. Gonzales beat Ted Schroeder in the men’s singles final, 16-18, 2-6, 6-1. 6-2, 6-4. Mrs Dupont beat Miss Doris Hart in the women’s final, 6-4, 6-1. The semi-finals of the mixed doubles resulted:—Talbert and Mrs Dupont beat Drobny and Mrs Todd. 6-0, 6-2; Sturgess and Miss Brough beat Gonzales and Miss Moran, 6-8, 6-3, 15-13.
