DRUM EXPLODES

GARAGE PROPRIETOR INJURED (New Zealand Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH. September 6. A severe head injury was suffered by Mr T. R. McCullum, a garage proprietor, at Tariki, when an empty 44gallon drum which he was cutting with an acetylene torch exploded this afternoon. His condition was reported subsequently by the Stratford Hospital to be serious. Believing that the drums on which ! he was working had not been used for 1 petrol, Mr McCullum had not filled i them with water, a usual precaution j when dealing with petrol drums.
