MIGRATION TO ISRAEL

DANGERS SEEN BY JEWISH LEADER WORLD CONGRESS MEETS IN PARIS (N.Z.P.A.—Reuter—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) PARIS, August 30. Dr. N. Goldman, acting-president of the European executive committee of the World Jewish Congress, which is meeting in Paris, complained last night that many of the best leaders of the Jewish people were going to Israel and leaving communities in several countries without leadership. If the Jews wanted to remain strong and independent, he said, they would retain their sense of proportion. There was a danger of Israel becoming a small Balkan nation, with Jews throughout the world losing their identity. Dr. Goldman said that most Jews would remain outside Israel for generations.

He added that Germany was the most difficult problem facing world Jewry. Denazification had failed completely. Some major criminals had been put on trial, but Nazis were again in leading positions. This problem would concern the Jews even if there was not a single Jew left in Germany. There was a danger of the new German State becoming a centre for the spreading of anti-Semitism through the world. The congress adopted a resolution regretting the .. establishment of the West German 1 ” State before denazification had been achieved and before the genuine democratic character of the new Germany had been established beyond doubt. It protested against what was described as the tolerance of the occupying Powers to the revival of an aggressive and anti-Semitic Nazi spirit in their zones. The resolution said that the revival of reaction ana Nazism in Germany, if unchecked, would menace the future of humanity and the existence of the Jewish people.
