FRENCH POSSESSIONS IN INDIA
INCLUSION IN UNION DISCUSSED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) NEW DELHI, July 30. The Indian Government has offered to include French Indian possessions in the Indian Union as “an autonomous State"’ if the forthcoming referendum favours a merger with India, said Mr Edouard Goubert, the Pondicherry Administration Minister. Mr Goubert is the leader of a delegation representing the French territories which yesterday talked with Pandit Nehru. The Indian offer will be considered by a municipal congress representing the four French settlements. Pondicherry. Karikal. Mahe, and Yanaon. The fifth French settlement, Chandernagore. has already voted for merging with the Indian Union.
