MAGISTRATE’S COURT

< TUESDAY (Before Mr Rex. C. Abernethy, S.M.) CONVICTED AND DISCHARGED Thomas Jack Whitty, aged 31, a clerk (Mr D. H. Godfrey), who pleaded guilty on Monday to a charge that on June 26 he was found without lawful excuse on the enclosed premises of Leslie Martin, at 12 Glenarn terrace, and who was remanded for sentence, was convicted and discharged. Sub-Inspector G. H. L. Holt said that the Court had remanded Whitty so that inquiries could be made about his sobriety at the time off the offence. It was correct, as Whitty had told the Court, that Whitty was under the influence of liquor when he was found under a truck by the side of the house.

Magistrate said that drink was Whitty s trouble. There was nothing sinister about his being where he was. The two days he had spent in gaol should be a lesson to him.
