KARTIKJEYA WINS CUP DEPRIVE TARES HONOURS IN SPRINT Kartikeya outclassed his 11 opponents in the Oajnaru Winter Cup at the Oamaru Jockey Club’s winter meeting on Saturday. winning by four lengths from Thornbridge,’with Flying Control third. The horses which filled the first three placings are trained at Riccarton: Kartikeya by F. A. Roberts, whose other representative at the meeting. Revelry, won the Trial Hanj dicap. . Kartikeya, which is raced by the Windsor Park studmaster, Mr E. E. Steele, was making his second appearance after a spell, and he showed that he will be fit for his engagements at the Wellington winter meeting next month.' The Riccarton horseman, C. McDonald, had a successful day, riding Kartikeya. Revelry, and Deprive in their wins, and finishing third on Dark Chief in the last race. His other mount was unplaced. Trained' at Trentham by the veteran. A. Goodman, Deprive won the open sprint, the Grange Handicap, after a keen tussle with .the Wingatui-trained Faites vos Jpux oyer the last furlong. Alamode was three lengths clear of the fourth horse, Winning Cheer, and then there was a gap to Dymondy, Sally Gazelle, and Luminous Knight, which were practically' in line.
