GERMAN TRADE FAVOURED

WORLD CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE RESOLUTION BY STUDY GROUP (Rec. 9 p.m.) OTTAWA. June 16. The development of trade with Germany was recommended to-day in a resolution adopted by a study group at the conference of the International Chambers of Commerce. The group has been discussing European reconstruction. Mr Rudolph Mees (Holland), introducing the resolution, said: “Other countries have to choose between two possibilities’ either they accept German goods, and therefore German competition; or they allow the Germans to leave their accounts unpaid. If we want to rebuild Europe, we will have to rebuild Germany. German competition is safer than an accumulation of misery and poverty in the middle of Europe.” Mr Richafd Merton, leader of the German delegation, said: “German businessmen feel deep emotion at finding themselves once again co-operat-ing. in the International Chambers of Commerce, with the businessmen of other countries. They are determined to play their part in working towards a common goal. “AH sane Germans realise that Germany’s recovery is possible only within the framework of European recovery as a whole. I hope to see the day rapidly approach when Europeans can regard the whole of Europe as their home market.”
