The engagement is announced of Beatrice Joyce Rickerby, .daughter of Mrs Harriott. Arthur’s Pass, to Albert George, second son of Mr and Mrs A. G. Girvan, Seafield. Ashburton.
Mrs J. T. Holland was the speaker at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Parents’ National Educational Union, held last night at the home of Dr. and Mrs Douglas Anderson, Armagh street west. Her subject was the teaching of religion in the home, and her address was prefaced by an interesting introduction given bv the president (Mrs Norton Francis), who presided. Photographs of the Greek child which the branch has sponsored under the Save the Children fund were shown at the meeting. Mrs A. Vere Winchester has been elected acting-president of the Friends of St. George’s Hospital for the next 14 months, during the absence overseas of the president. Mrs Algar Williams. At a recent meeting, the Friends of the Hosnital decided to provide extra comforts, sucn as additional headphones for patients with the money collected at the annual meeting held in April.
