MEN CHARGED WITH DESERTION
THIRTY OF CREW SAID TO HAVE LEFT SHIP (New Zealand Press Association.) AUCKLAND. June 17. It was stated that 30 of the crew deserted the immigrant ship Atlantis in Wellington last January 7, when two men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court to-day with desertion. The men charged were Brian Hyde, aged 24, and Terence Gerard Lynch, aged 23. ship’s stewards. Lynch was also charged with unlawfully interfering with a motor-car valued at £325. Hyde pleaded guilty and was fined £1 and costs. Lynch was remanded in custody until Monday.
