RESCUE WORK ON MOUNTAINS
NEW TYPE OF STRETCHER An improved type of stretcher, for rescue work on mountains, was demonstrated in the yard of the Central Police Station. Christchurch, yesterday by Mr N? Hamilton to members the police force. The stretcher, which is made on the same principle as splints, fits closely round the body and is adjustable, preventing any movement when an injured person is being carried over rough tracks or lowered down rock faces. It is so constructed that there is little likelihood of its catching on rough surfaces, and it will slide smoothly on ice. The stretcher is fitted with grips for six men, but it can be carried by two on a narrow track. A tai] tank stand represented a rock face in the demonstration, and a constable was the “patient.” The stretcher was made by Mr Hamilton in association with members of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Alnine Club.
