GEORGE CROSS AWARDED

RESCUE OF AIRCRAFT SURVIVORS (Rec. 9 p.m.) CANBERRA, May 23. Mr Roylance Wilson, of Lord Howe Island, has been awarded the George Cross for hiS part in the. rescue of two survivors of a Royal Australian Air Force Catdlffia flying-boat, which crashed on the island on September 28, 1948. Mr W. E. Davis, Who assisted in the rescue, has been awarded the British Empire Medal. The citation says that Mr Wilsoh, Who was .the first to arrive at the scene of the crash, displayed great coolness and exceptional courage in rushing to the tail of the aircraft, which was blazing fiercely, and in dragging one man clear. With the assistance of Mr Davis, he then rescudd another min. Within a few seconffij, the second petrol tank of the aircraft exploded.
